H.L. Holston is a teacher by day and a sometimes author by night. She dreams up ideas with her writing partners Sue (they write as Sue Holston) and Eleanor Bruce, but occasionally she ventures out on her own. She admits she is a horrible blogger, even worse in keeping up on Facebook and wishes she could retire to New Orleans and eat beignets every day at Café du Monde. Until then, she will teach U.S. and World History and write books about sexy men loving each other.

This was a short story that had so much unrealized potential! It also gets points for combining military and medical themes!I liked both the main characters, the best friend and the plot. I enjoyed the story, but there was opportunity to make this into a full length novel which would have provided a greater depth to the characters.
I bought the Kindle version from Amazon ($3.81) and didn't realise it was only 47 pages. I was a bit disappointed in the length of the book and value for money which was compounded by the fact that the story actually ended at 82%. From 82% it is an excerpt of another book. Although it might have been 46 pages up to that point, I am never aware of the page numbers when I start reading so use the percentage to see how far through a book I am.
I also noticed one small editing problem in the book - at one point Daniel was called Dylan. Only a small thing which didn't detract from the story.

This is a character driven story that has a smoothly flowing plot and characters who face so many obstacles thrown in their way by a military unable to let them love openly. The authors' concise style of writing provides a frank look into the world of the military and how some people are forced to live a lie as to who they love if they want to stay in the service. The authors demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of their subject and shows how one accident can alter lives in an instant. I really enjoyed this book and would definitely recommend it to anyone wanting a quick but very thought provoking tale.
